Apparently we do not know our history

*rustling sounds of someone rummaging through pages
*coughs *coughs " QUACKKKKKKK QUACK QQQQQUACK! "
In Duck language, it means - I can't believe you make me go all the way down here at 12pm in the afternoon in this scorching heat to find a book for you that is NOT for sale just because you want to know more about the history of the Society YOU WORK HERE DON'T YOU KNOW A THING U !$£%$2S@!!^&. IM A DUCK NOT A SLAVE. SERIOUSLY NOT PAID ENOUGH FOR THIS. NO ONE ASK.
There's actually more to it and a lot of very foul words. But I tried my otter best to summarise it.
" I told you already NEVER disturb the guy. No one knows where he comes from. AND I can't handle another loud quack! " scowls Flint the Goose. Now I would have thought being a war veteran and all, he's probably seen ...enough?
" He just appeared and decided to come in everyday but oh he means no harm...", joined in Cleo, shrugging her shoulders as she puts on her aviator goggles, ready to jump into 20,000 leagues under the Sea.
" Does he get paid ? ", asks Pip the bunny, squirming his overgrown eyebrows.
Being neighbours (of the same duck clan) from the upper valley river , I can say I'm use to the duck language. But please don't expect me to quack back at him. It is considered extremely rude in their opinion. So the only way to communicate with them is to wait till they speak in your language.
" ...Maybeee... hhhee.. he... jjjussttt ..needs a ...ffffwen ? , stutters Rufus the Dog behind his space helmet.
Rude Duck has been here for a while. For how long we do not know. He magically appeared behind a pile of forgotten books a few days after Flint and I joined in and claimed that he's been here longer than us. How very merry peculiar.
I saw Flint merging down on his armchair in the corner. Just when he was going to continue Fahrenheit-451 .... " What were you asking him to look for anyway ..."
" The history of this bookshop ", I answered loudly from the cashier counter.
Suddenly everybody paused and looked at me. Did I break something i'm not suppose to ?! Oh nonono.
" Wait we thought you knew, Basil ?! ", exclaims Cleo, her book dive interrupted by her new-found curiosity on... history.
Let's back track a little. From what I know, the Society of books is named after us. So how is it possible the name was created before knowing our existence ? That's what I want to find out.
The upstairs door squeaked open but no foot steps were heard coming out of it. Then it slammed shut with a errupt thud *BOOOOOOMMM!!!! Sending Flint hiding behind Cleo. His feathers are all fluffed up from the horror he looks a bit like a silkie chicken right now.
*clears her throat behind them
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ( Flint jumps onto Cleo )HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH( Pip clutches Cleo tight) HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH( Rufus tries to close his eyes but his helmet's in the way) HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (me screaming) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!
Behind them standing with her head up high was Maren the Cat.
" Enough.", silenced Maren. " That duck is never going to find anything."
".......I'll tell you. "
Clocked out by Basil
In our Society blogposts, recollections of events may vary, as we record our dailies in one conscious stream of thought without thinking much. Sometimes we write as if we're in a movie, a first person POV or pretend we're a security camera (creepyy).
We like using the "dash" symbol. Just because it points to something we want to say. No, this is typed from the working brains of a human and not ChatGPT. Although, it's not sooooo bad.
It helped Rude Duck communicate with the Society.
